Paul McCartney has shared an unusual complaint about how his relationship with John Lennon is portrayed in movies about The Beatles.

During an appearance on Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast, the legendary musician explained that filmmakers often make Lennon appear significantly taller than he was, even though the two were approximately the same height.

McCartney pointed to the 2009 film Nowhere Boy, which explored Lennon’s early life. He recalled being frustrated by the noticeable height difference between the actors portraying the two musicians.

The issue has also come up in connection with director Sam Mendes’ upcoming Beatles film project, scheduled for release in April 2028.

Paul Mescal will portray McCartney, while Harris Dickinson will play Lennon. The actors have a noticeable height difference, something McCartney has already discussed with Mendes.

McCartney also explained that George Harrison was roughly the same height as him and Lennon, while Ringo Starr was slightly shorter.

For McCartney, the concern is about accurately representing the band’s appearance and the dynamics between its members.
